Hawks Win The Battle Of The Birds
The Las Positas women's soccer team upended host Feather River 3-1 Tuesday in Round 1 of the 3C2A Women's NorCal Regional Playoffs.
The 18th-seeded Hawks overcame cold conditions and a frost-covered field to take out the 15th seed with a stellar team effort.
"The team played great today," head coach Andy Cumbo said. "We faced a lot of challenges and adversity in the match. It was a really good day for the team, I'm happy for them."
Three different Hawks scored goals, but only one Hawk had a hand or shay we say foot, in every goal, and that was freshman Suzanne Hassan. In the 15th minute, it was Daisy De La Torre who scored the first goal of the match, as she took the rebound off a Hassan shot and found the back of the net. After Feather River tied it in the 35th minute, Hassan put the Hawks ahead to stay with an unassisted in the 65th minute. It was just her second goal of the season. Then just ten minutes later, the Hawks would get a knock out goal from Alyssa Houlihan, who has now scored 6 goals in the last 3 matches, when she took a Hassan ball and put it passed the Feather River Keeper. Las Positas keeper Mia Lemus had 8 saves.
With the win, which is their third in a row by a combined score of 15-1, the Hawks will travel to Folsom to take on the #2 seeded Folsom Lake College (18-1-2) on Saturday. The start time has yet to be announced.
