One Last Push
The Hawks women's soccer team wanted to end the regular season on a high note, instead they finished with a deafening bang, defeating the Mountain Lions by a score of 4-0 on De Anza's sophomore night. Just two days earlier, they scored 8 goals once again on an opponent's sophomore night, as they defeated Gavilan 8-0.
The scoring started early for the Hawks against De Anza as Alyssa Houlihan in the 5th minute, took a Joanna Castillo pass, crossed out in front of the goal and quickly put it in the back of the net. It was the only goal scored in the first half. The next goal came in the 52nd minute as Kailey Matta's strike from just outside the box found it's way passed the goalie, it was Castillo who once again recorded the assist. Matta would return the favor as she found a streaking Daisy De La Torre on a run through the middle of the defense. De La Torre wasted no time putting the ball away for the Hawks third goal of the game. Houlihan scored her second and the matches final goal, when she redirected a perfect cross from Ashley Annis into the empty net.
By finishing the season on a two-game winning streak, the Hawks improve their record to 8-9-3 and 4-5-2 in conference play. They will now play the waiting game, as they anticipate the news of their playoff fate, which will be determined this Saturday at the Nor-Cal seeding meeting.
