Championships Won, Tickets Punched
There was a lot on the line this past Saturday, as divers from across Northern California gathered at S.J. Delta College to take part in the Nor-Cal Regional Diving finals. Where spots to the State Championships, which begins in three weeks in Costa Mesa, were up for grabs. And if that wasn't enough, the results of this competition will be used to determine not only the individual conference champions but will also be a part of the scoring used in the conference team championships.
For the Hawks, the biggest winners on Saturday were Sarah Dorn and Zack Ulrich. Dorn placed 2nd in the Nor-Cal Championships in both the 1M (213.75) and 3M (198.65), earning her two bids into the State Championships. Ulrich found himself qualifying for the State Championships with his 4th place finish (169.85) in the 1M and 6th place in the 3M (158.50). Dorn took home Coast Conference titles in both the 1M and 3M while Ulrich also won a title for his performance in the 1M, based on their finish amongst other conference participants.
In the Women's competition, also punching her two tickets to Costa Mesa, based on her 5th place finish in the 1M (174.75) and 9th place in the 3M (129.05) was Annie Holm. Fellow Hawk Madi Foster finished 14th (86.20) in the 1M and 11th (56.50) in the 3M competition. For coast conference results, the Hawks had a 1,2,3 sweep in the 3M and just missed out of another sweep in the 1M with a 1,2,4th place finish.
In the Men's competition, the last Hawk to earn his ticket to the State Championship was Ilya Kransyy who scored 151.50 in the 1M, which was good for 7th place. A missed dive in the 3M, kept him from qualify in both disciplines. Both of those finishes were good for 3rd place amongst Coast Conference competition. Not to be left out was Vinnie Vandersall whose 16th place finish in the 1M (102.00) and 12 in the 3M (94.30) were good for a 5th (1M) and 4th (3M) place in Coast Conference competition.
With the diving portion of the Coast Conference Swim and Dive Championships completed, swimming events will now step into the spot light. Individual titles and spots in the 3C2A State Championships will be on the line starting this Thursday and lasting through Saturday at Chabot College. Prelims are scheduled for 10 am, with finals scheduled to begin at 3 pm.
Go Hawks!
