The Las Positas men’s soccer team cut to the Quick in a 3-0 win over visiting Redwoods on Friday, doing all the offensive damage in the second half.

Jordan Quick had assists on the Hawks’ first two goals by Omid Eibagi and Joseph Vargas Diaz in the second half. Las Positas (3-2-1) extended its unbeaten streak to three games.

“We’ve been making progress each day,” Hawks coach Andy Cumbo said. “We’ve got a lot of talent and depth, but with that sometimes it takes a little longer for everything to come together. We’re not at our best yet, but the effort is there.”

Eibagi’s goal in the 50^th minute came off a double assist from Quick and Nick Tucker. Diaz’s goal also was off a double assist from Tucker and Navid Khamush. Jake Foscalina rounded out the scoring in the 89^th minute off an assist from goalkeeper Brannon Dwyer, who made five saves for the shutout.

Foscalina is ranked tied for sixth in the state with five goals.

Cumbo said it was “nice to see” Foscalina score. “We are glad to showcase the local talent.”

Las Positas will host Modesto at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Taft at 6 p.m. on Friday, and then will travel to district-rival Chabot on Sept. 26 to conclude nonconference play. The Hawks open Coast Conference play at home against Monterey at 4 p.m. on Sept. 29.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

The Hawks (3-1-2) will wrap up nonconference play with a road game against Sequoias (1-3-1) on Friday. Las Positas rallied for a 1-1 draw at Lake Tahoe on Sept. 15, on a goal by Rocio Perez in the 84^th minute. Azariah Douglas had the assist.

Goalkeeper Jennifer Parker made 11 saves. Skillful Camila Fonseca is tied for first in the state in assists with seven.

Las Positas, combatting a tough schedule, will open Coast Conference play at Cabrillo on Sept. 26, and will start Coast-North action at home against Hartnell at 6 p.m. on Sept. 29.

WATER POLO

The Las Positas women’s team is off to a strong start with wins over Sacramento City 16-6, CSM 13-10 and Cabrillo 7-0. The Hawks’ only loss was against West Valley 20-7 in the West Valley Invitational.

Nikki White had a hat trick against Cabrillo and Madison Ferguson scored twice. Ferguson also had four goals against CSM and Negin Tehranian-Torghabeh had three goals.

Against Sacramento, Ferguson led the way with six goals and Elizabeth Bukus and White both had three.

The Hawks men’s team dropped its first two contests in the Anttila Memorial Tournament, falling 12-10 to Modesto and 9-1 to Merced. Andrew Long Kettenhofen had five goals and one assist against Modesto, and Sasha Lazzerereschi had three goals and two assists.

CROSS COUNTRY

The Hawks men’s team took third in the first annual Las Positas Invitational on Friday with 87 points. UC Santa Cruz was first with 26 points, and reigning NorCal champion Hartnell was a close second with 39.

In the 5K women’s race, Las Positas freshman Lilianna Lopez, in her first cross country event, took an impressive 18^th place. Freshman Nicole Cartier was 46^th.

In the 4-mile men’s race, David Frisbie and Sebastian Andersson paced the Hawks finishing in 17^th and 18^th places. Lucas Vigil and Michael Ochoa were 35^th and 36^th and Jordan Kirby and Peter Norman were 38^th and 39^th.
