Strong Showing

The women's water polo team came into the Big 8/Coast Crossovers having only won one match on the season and came out of it with two wins and were two goals short of having a perfect 3-0 weekend.

In their first match the Hawks feel behind in the opening minutes giving up two goals, only to strike back with 5 unanswered to take control of the match on their way to 17-9 win over Diablo Valley. After a hot finish to the first period, the match went back and forth before the Hawks sealed the win with 4 straight goals in the fourth.  Monica Ureno led the way offensively with 6 goals and an assist, while Amy Heath had 5 goals on only 5 shots. Also contributing were Makenzie Duffin who had 3 goals, Jaymie Helm had 2 goals and an assist with Erin Cain also scoring a goal while handing out 2 assists.  Jeorgia Ruegsegger finished with 14 saves in goal.

Day two saw the Hawks get off to a slow start, trailing 4-0 to Fresno City. After a strong second, the match went into half with the Rams leading 6-5 which then became an 8-7 lead going into the fourth. The Hawks caught fire early with 4 straight goals scored by Ureno, Helm, Heath and Duffin to take an 11-8 lead. However, Fresno City came roaring back with 4 unanswered to take the win, 12-11. Ureno led offensively with 4 goals, while Heath 3, Helm 2, Cain 1 and Duffin 1 rounded out the scoring and Ruegsegger came up with 9 saves on the defensive end.

In their third match of the crossovers, the Hawks came away with a 14-4 win over Santa Rosa.  It was Heath this time leading the way with 7 goals, while Ureno had 4.  Helm finished the day with 2 goals and a team high 3 assists, while Duffin had the remaining goal to go along with two assists. Ruegsegger had two saves before giving way to Lilian White in the fourth, who had two saves.

It's a light week schedule wise for the Hawks as they will travel to Marin on Wednesday the 18th for their only match. They will be back at The Nest on the 25th as they play host to San Mateo. Go Hawks!
