Hawks Succeed In and Above the Water

Thirteen different schools brought 216 swimmers to compete in the Coast Conference Kickoff last Friday. Amongst those dipping their toes in the water from the blocks or the diving boards were the 24 member of the Hawks Swim & Dive squad who had themselves a pretty successful day. Between the men's and women's squads, 9 events were won by Hawks, 8 of the 26 events saw Hawks finish 2nd or 3rd.

The big winner on the day was Zachary Zauhar-Kurr who won the 200 Free (1:47:10), 200 IM (1:56:63) and 100 free (48:20). In the 200 IM it was Logan Borrelli who finished second to Zauhar-Kurr with a time of 2:05.25. The 200 Medley relay was won by the Hawks made up of Borrelli (Back), Zauhar-Kurr (Breast) Jay Jani (Fly) and anchored by Ethan Santiago (Free). Out on the boards it was a 2nd and 3rd place finish for Illya Krasnyy 165.70 and Zachary Ulrich 156.20 on the 1M. When moving up in height for the 3M board it became 1st and 3rd finish for the Hawks. Ulrich won with a score total of 164.10 while Krasnyy finished with a 147.67 total.

In the women's events it was Jaymie Helm winning the 200 Free (2:11:59) while Amy Heath finished 3rd with a time of 2:12:99. Samantha Fehr got her second event win on the year with a 1:10:73 finish in the 100 Breast. Makenzie Duffin (5:57.41) got a 3rd place finish in the 500 Free. Taking to the air, the Hawks duo of Sarah Dorn and Annie Holm dominated the boards. Dorn won the 1M with a total of 197.20, while Holm finished 2nd with 175.65. On the 3 M Dorn won again 190.50 with Holm earning a 109.65 total.

"I thought the meet went very well for our team.  It always helps being in your own pool and not having to travel, but we did very well despite the last minute location change to us hosting here at LPC.It is always hard to narrow down top performances, especially when we had so many great swims from a personal and team standpoint. Off the top of my head, Zach winning both races and ranking him 7th in the 100 Free and 2nd in the 200IM for the 3C2A and Sam winning the 100 Breast with a lifetime best and ranking her 5th in the 3C2A. It was great for the athletes and coaches to see the progress being made and hard work paying off this past Friday", said head Coach Jason Craighead when asked about the preformance of his squad. "

The Hawks will be back in the pool Friday as they will travel to down South to Cupertino to participate in the De Anza Invite which starts at 10 a.m. Go Hawks!
