The Las Positas Women's Soccer team kicked off the college's 2023-24 athletic season by taking on the #3 ranked team in the nation the Panthers of Chaffey College yesterday afternoon at the nest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

 The Hawks tested themselves right out of the gate by taking on Chaffey College to start the season. The visiting Panthers scored goals in the  11^th, 18^th and 37^th minute of the first half, with their final goal came in at the 72^nd minute. Keeper Mia Lemus came up with 10 saves in her first match as a Hawk. Offensively, the Hawks got off 5 shots on goal.

FROM THE COACH

Now we know how good they are. Chaffey is a solid team with a solid tradition and we had our hands full today. The experience was very positive and this young group has a better idea now of what the level is like at the top. Mia Lemus had an excellent day in goal, our backline with Grace Toney, Britney Lois Truscott and Kailey Matta were solid while Danielle Castro had a strong performance overall. While there's still a lot of development needed, we made a lot of progress today and this experience will help us get better.

UP NEXT

The Hawks will be back in action next Tuesday evening at home as they take on Consumnes River College with kickoff scheduled for 6:30. For the visiting Hawks, it will be their first match of the year, a season ago they finished the year with a 10-9-5 record. Go Hawks!
