The Las Positas women's basketball team continues to take steps forward early in the season, with plenty of star power.
The Hawks' Kierstin Constantino, a Lathrop High graduate, continued her sensational start with 35 points (with 9 3's), 10 assists, eight rebounds, two steals and no turnovers in a blowout of Yuba, 109-41, on Saturday, Nov. 11 in the Marin Crossover — the Hawks' first win of the season.

Hawks head coach Caleb Theodore is thrilled to have Constantino on the squad."Kierstin is a star, you cannot limit her potential. It only shrinks who she is. Now she is making history and thriving," the coach says. "She is the best basketball player to come out of Lathrop High."

The Hawks (1-4) dominated on the boards and overall against Yuba. Kyshanti King had 26 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and a block. Monique Cavness powered for 29 rebounds, 11 points, seven assists, three steals and two blocks. Rayna Manu had 32 points, three rebounds and five assists. Joyce Mulumba amassed 28 boards, five points and two blocks, and is leading the state averaging 22.2 rebounds per game.

Constantino is ranked tied for fourth in the state in points per game, averaging 24.4. Cavness is No. 3 in the state in rebounds at 19.8 per game.
Theodore also raves about Cavness, Manu, Mulumba, and King.

"They are all talented athletes and even more incredible people," the coach says. "They continue to lead by example and move with purpose. They are motivated to make history this year and they piece things together one game and one day at a time."

Monday Night at The Nest, the Las Positas women's basketball team gave unbeaten Taft an intense battle in a 93-89 defeat .Hawks star Kierstin Constantino scored 37 points and Joyce Mulumba and Monique Cavness each had 25 rebounds. Rayna Manu added 21 points and Kyshanti King had 17.

With just five players going the full 40 minutes, the gallant Hawks still outscored Taft 28-18 in the fourth quarter, to make it a cliffhanger.
Las Positas head coach Caleb Theodore gave his determined and talented players high marks. The game served as a teaching tool as well.

"There are valuable lessons and takeaways from playing Taft that we will keep with us moving forward in preseason," he said. "Kierstin had another career night with 37 points shooting 50 percent from 3. She is making history every single game for us. Her leadership on the court is invaluable."

He added that "Monique and Joyce are dominating the boards. Rayna and Kyshanti are playing their roles well."
But the Hawks (1-5) need a few more stops on defense to reach their bigger goals.

"We have to be much better on the defensive end as a team. We are allowing our opponents far too many points per game," the coach said. "In order for us to make history, this is going to have to tighten up. We still have plenty of time to make the necessary adjustments to prepare for the remainder of preseason and the upcoming regular season."
