LPC swimmers shine at Hawk Invite

Host Las Positas had an excellent meet at the Hawk Invitational on Friday and Saturday, with 11 victories and five meet records.

"As a whole, our season is really starting to shape up," Las Positas coach Jason Craighead said. "Both our women's and men's teams are continually improving and working hard to make a mark at the end of the season."

The Hawks' Ross Brown, an Amador Valley graduate, cruised to victory by over 33 seconds in the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 16:50.43.

In the men's 400-yard IM, the Hawks went 1-2 as Zach Zauhar-Kurr (Castro Valley HS), who had a brilliant meet with three meet records, took first in a time of 4:03.94 (meet record), and Ryan Ridosko (4:12.18) was second. Zauhar-Kurr also took first in the 100 breaststroke (57.39, meet record), 50 breast (26.85) and 200 breast (2:05.22, meet record). Marcu Holunga (Granada) was first in the 500 free (4:45.72), third in the 200 free (1:46.13) and second in the 200 butterfly (2:01.28).

Ridosko (Granada) won in the 100 IM (54.36) and was second in the 200 back (1:57.84) and 200 IM (1:57.90).

Liberty graduate Zach Perry was second in the 50 free (27.87) and fourth in the 200 breast (2:17.71)

Steve Ragatz (Livermore) was first in the 50 back (28.21), and Ryan Clark (Amador Valley) was sixth in the 50 fly (25.44).

Las Positas was second in the 200 medley relay (1:39.41).

The Las Positas men were second in the 400 free relay (3:13.13), behind West Valley (3:12.09). The Hawks were also second in the 400 medley relay (3:36.46), behind only Sierra (3:35.10). The Hawks were also second in the 200 free relay (1:27.89).

On the women's side, the Hawks' Ashley Sand (Castro Valley) dominated the breaststroke races, taking first in the 100 breast (1:08.33), 50 breast (30.81, meet record) and 200 breast (2:28.45, meet record).

Sam Dorn (Tracy) took first in the 1650 free (9:04.14) and was also third in the 500 free (5:36.57). The Hawks were third in the 400 medley relay (4:20.65).
