MOBLEY WILL NOT BE DENIED

Elijah Mobley poured in a season-high 41 points and the Las Positas men's basketball team earned a much-deserved first Coast-North win of the season, defeating ranked Skyline 80-76 on Feb. 2 at Tony Costello Court.

Mobley, a freshman guard out of Weston Ranch High, is averaging 15.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists a game.

"I think his will really carried us. He was not going to be denied," LPC head coach James Giacomazzi said of Mobley. "Really aggressive but efficiently aggressive, aggressive within the flow of the offense. It's not like he went iso."

The young Hawks (14-9, 1-6) have played a lot of close games in the tough conference and were due to taste victory. They held off the Trojans, ranked tied for 30th in the state, after leading by seven at halftime, avenging a two-point defeat in the Hawks' conference opener.

Standout Alex Martin, a 6-6 sophomore guard out of Washington High, had a double-double of 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. He is averaging a team-high 18.2 points a game overall.

Sterling McClanahan, a freshman guard out of Fairfield, added nine points, two assists and three blocks.

Giacomazzi is telling his team to take care of what it can … "You've got to get one win in order to get two," he said.
He knows young squads often pay their dues in the veteran-laden Coast-North, where a missed free throw, rebound not made, or a brief lapse in concentration can decide the outcome.
The Hawks will look to build on this victory with tough test on Friday at Ohlone.
