Classic Win

In a rousing start to the season, the Las Positas men's basketball team earned the championship of the Tony Costello Tip-Off Classic. The Hawks, No. 6 in the CCCMBCA preseason rankings, finished with a triumph over Cosumnes River, 83-63, in the championship game on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The Hawks also beat Los Medanos 89-59 and Siskiyous 77-59 in the eight-team Classic.

Elijah Mobley, a sophomore guard out of Weston Ranch High, was named tournament MVP after amassing 24 points, three rebounds, three assists and five steals against Cosumnes River. All-Tourney selection Jorren Edmonds (Washington HS), a sophomore guard, had 12 points, eight rebounds and two assists.Freshman guard Richard Banks (Weston Ranch) added nine points, three assists and three steals.
Sophomore forward Mecca Okereke (Menlo-Atherton) also made All Tournament.

Against Siskiyous, Elijah Mobley had 28 points and two assists.
Edmonds filled the stat sheet with 15 points, six rebounds, eight steals, and four assists.

Against Los Medanos, Elijah Mobley led the way with 21 points and three steals; Okereke had 10 points, six rebounds and four blocks.
Freshman guard Coby Christensen (Palm Desert) had 11 points and two assists.

Next, the Hawks, guided by head coach James Giacomazzi, will host Lassen on Saturday, Nov. 16.
