No. 5 Las Positas opens Tony Costello Tip-Off Classic with OT loss to Butte

The Las Positas College men's basketball team opened the 2021-22 season and its home tournament with a tough 103-100 loss in overtime to visiting Butte College at The Nest on Thursday night in Livermore. The thriller wrapped up an exciting first day of action at the 15th Annual Tony Costello Tip-Off Classic.

Las Positas entered the contest ranked No. 5 in the Northern California Preseason Rankings by the California Community College Men's Basketball Association (CCCMBCA) and were upset by No. 20 Butte.

Freshman Brandon Fisher (Sheldon HS/Elk Grove, CA) had a huge collegiate debut for the Hawks. He posted a double-double with 32 points and 13 rebounds. He was nearly perfect, shooting 15 for 17 from the field on his way to his big night.

Sophomore Lee Jones, Jr. (Serra HS/San Mateo, CA) poured in 17 points and dished out seven assists while freshman Domonick Victor (Howard University/Tracy, CA) added 11 points and eight rebounds.

Las Positas continues tournament play on Friday (Nov. 5) at 5 p.m. against No. 25 Sacramento City College in a scheduled game. The Hawks close out the tourney on Saturday (Nov. 6) with a 4 p.m. match up against No. 23 College of the Siskiyous.
